Sudarshan Telecom: Optical Fiber Cable

COLORING
This is done for colour coding of different fibres in the cable for ease of fibre identification during installation and operation. In this process primary coated fibre of natural colour is passed through a chamber of ink applicator where the ink of appropriate colour is applied over the fibre and immediately cured by UV ray in the chamber. The fibre, after colouring is wound on a different spool in the take-up.

SZ STRANDING:
The formation of the cable core takes place in this process. The secondary coated loose tubes are stranded (SZ Type) around a central strength member. The central strength member is usually a FRP rod (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) of appropriate diameter to provide the necessary tensile strength to the cable during laying and in its operation. If required, fillers are also incorporated along with the loose tubes to maintain circular shape of the cable. Fillers are solid HDPE rod of same diameter as buffer tubes and are made in a separate extrusion process. Normally, 5 to 8 tubes are stranded around a central strength member and each tube can have upto 12 fibre of different colours. By this process normally upto 96 fibre cable can be manufactured. (For cables of higher fiber count (viz. 144, 192, 216, 288, 432 etc), a second layer of SZ stranding is applied). To keep the stranding lay in position, two numbers of Nylon yarn / PP binders are applied helically and the core is also filled with jelly (For dry core construction, instead of core jelly, water blocking yarns / tapes are used). The core is wrapped with Polyester tape which is applied longitudinally / helically over the core. This tape holds the the core and also acts as a heat barrier during the next operation of sheathing.

SHEATHING & JACKETING:
In this process a layer of HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) is extruded over the stranded core. The Sheath acts as a moisture barrier as well as a protection to the core. (If required, a further layer of outer jacket (Viz. Nylon PA 12) can be extruded). (In another design of the cable, called 'Mono-tube', the buffer tube is directly sheathed (by-passing the stranding stage) with the FRP / Steel wire strength members placed outside the tube and embedded in the sheath). Sheathing can be applied with HDPE, Nylon PA12, LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) or other required and compatible materials. Cables with Plastic laminated Aluminium tape wherever required can also be offered.

Corrugated Steel Tape Armouring:
If required, Corrugated Steel Tape (ECCS or Stainless Steel) armoring can be applied either directly on to the core assembly (for single sheath design) or on the HDPE Inner sheath (for Double sheath design). For cables requiring very high compression strength, even Double layer of armouring (Triple sheath design) can be offered. In special case involving under water River / Lake crossing, Steel wire armouring can also additionally offered).

ADSS Cables:
For ADSS Cables, Aramid Yarn / Kevlar additional strength members are applied (longitudinally with helical lay) either in single sheath design or double sheath design as per requirement.

PLANT & MACHINERY:
The state of the art manufacturing equipments e.g. Coloring Line, Buffering/Secondary Coating Line, Stranding Line and Sheathing / jacketing Line have been imported from leading equipment manufacturers and these are running successfully.

TESTING EQUIPMENTS:
Our well equipped laboratory has been provided with the latest models of basic Testing Equipments; e.g., Chromatic Dispersion Equipment, Fibre Geomentry Systems, Fibre Analysis System and OTDRs and Mechanical Testing Equipments, Including Environmental Chamber to test the final products as per standards and specifications of our customers.
